Thought of starting off with an introduction to the art of quilling aka Paper filigree.
Its purely for beginners and those who wants to know its history and geography.
What It Is...
Quilling is an art of making beautiful objects like flowers, trees, leaves, animals, greeting cards, pots, cups or whatever comes into your imagination using strips of paper. There are ready-made paper strips available in the market or you can even use scissors to cut paper into strips. Only thing you need lot of patience and time.
What all it requires...
Basic things it requires are:
a) Quilling tool
b) paper strips.
c) Glues
d) Scissors
We can use Quilling tool to roll the paper strips, shape the roll as we wish, glue it together to make beautiful designs, greeting cards for our friends, lovely teddy bears for our sweet heart etc.. etc..
History
History was always a boring subject for me in schools. But due to my passion for quilling I spend a little time on reading in the web. Historians says, this art of paper craft is originated in Egypt very long back.
In 16th and 17th centuries, nuns have practices paper quilling to decorate holy pictures, reliquaries etc. Later in Europian contries, ladies from affluent families used practice quilling along with needle work. It was a status symbol for rich people those days. Slowly this art is spread worldwide and today a lot of people having passion for crafts and arts practice this.
